A Personal view of Personal Training

111_2019Some may say that Personal Training is an expensive luxury, so is it really worth it? You can guess my view which is based on the fact that I hope I am living proof that Personal Training, if done with care and attention, does work.

Finding, what is to me, the most fulfilling career of my life in the fitness industry has come in my later years, and I wish I’d re-trained a long time ago. My clients know that I’m passionate about what I do, that each of their workouts are structured to maximise every ounce of their potential, and it’s not an over exaggeration to say that we’ve had some truly life changing results.

So how do I work with my clients to achieve these results? In other words, what do I bring to the party?

An in depth knowledge of the body in order to maximise each work out, and ensure it is safe.

A well thought through structure and purpose to each workout.

A phased progression in order to ensure long term gains as well as safety.

I also provide accountability and a reason for my clients to show up and workout.

And finally, but every bit as important, is my unswerving support, encouragement and enthusiasm for what each has set out to do.

If I can play any part whatsoever in inspiring people to maintain their fitness for the rest of their lives then my work here is done – priceless :-)

Summer’s Golden Harvest Is At An End

An unprecedented Golden Summer has now come to an end, and our Olympians and Paralympians have made us proud. We silenced the critics and London 2012 was a world class show from start to finish……Fab-u-lous!

And now the children are back at school, the days are shorter and the weather’s starting to feel a wee bit Autumnal…………so a perfect time to get a sweat on me thinks!

But, after our fantastic summer ‘sport fest’, a question crossed my mind; will being sporty now be considered a bit more cool?

People who know me well know that my answer is simple because I really don’t care what’s considered to be cool or uncool. As a Personal Trainer I care about exercise and what works for my clients so that they feel good about themselves and what they’re doing. I also don’t care about fads of any sort, and never really have. But I care that, through exercise, my clients are able maximise their enjoyment and potential, and whether what I’m asking them to do is cool or a la mode is of no importance.

It feels as though the word “legacy” has been bandied about endlessly since we won the right to host the 2012 Olympic Games, and now that the athletes have gone home, and the dust is settling on the former Olympic venues the examination process has begun in earnest. I must admit that I don’t want to enter into a political debate about any so called ‘true’ legacy, but what I will say is that I hope that both the young and old and, indeed, everyone in between have now seen that participating in sport, or physical activity, is very cool and very worthwhile.

I perhaps wish this even more for women, whatever their age, who may have previously thought that having a toned body, and being seen to sweat is somehow not very attractive or feminine. After all, we’ve witnessed so many wonderful examples of women at the peak of physical fitness this summer. But can we, mere mortals, emulate them and in our own ways be in the best physical shape that we can be? I know that we can, and what a wonderfully cool legacy to London 2012 that would be :-)
